About Our Instructor
Bill White has a Bachelors Degree in Psychobiology
from UCSC and is the proud father of two children who started signing
and are now extremely verbal. Enthused by the success of
signing with his own children, Bill is now looking forward to teaching other parents how
to sign with their children.
Signing with your baby gives you the opportunity to
communicate with your child long before they can verbalize their wants and
needs... and signing with your baby is easy – easier than not signing with
your baby!
Babies already sign when they cry, lift their arms to be picked up,
point to a toy, or simply blow you a kiss. Wouldn’t it be nice to know
more precisely what your baby is trying to tell you?
Signing with your baby has been proven to facilitate deeper bonding and
will enhance their self esteem, increase reading speed and reduce aggressive
behavior.
During this 1.5 hour workshop, you’ll be introduced to 45+ basic signs.
Fun exercises, songs, and games will show you how easy it can be to integrate
these signs into your everyday routine and jump-start your child’s verbal
communication. Students have an option to take this enlightening workshop with an excellent
resource book: Baby Sign Basics by Monta Z. Briant. This is the same book utilized by the instructor.
Students will also have the option to purchase the book during the day of the class.
In a comfortable and casual setting you will learn:
• What is baby sign language
• Why you should
learn it and what are its benefits
• When you should
start signing with your baby
•
How you can learn it and find the time to use it
We’ll also address your
concerns:
• Will signing delay my baby’s
verbal language development?
•
What if I make mistakes with the signs?
• How is Baby Sign Language
similar to or different from American Sign Language?
